External flame is located at the southern end of the center link and north of the Scared Garden. The flame was brought from United Nations (New York, U.S.A) to Lumbini and lightened by the chairman of Lumbini, Gyanendra Shah as The United Nations (UN) celebrated the year 1986 as “Peace Year”. The flame was carried by athletes across 54 countries.
Tilaurakot was the actual capital of Kapilavastu and the home of king Shuddhodana, the father of prince Siddhartha who later became the Buddha as it was identified by the archeologists. The place is believed to be the place where Siddhartha spent his life as a prince. The Chinese travelers who visited Tilaurakot mentioned seeing numerous stupas, monasteries, and palaces. Tilaurakot is located 27 km west of Lumbini. Historically Kapilavastu was named after saint Kapil. Buddha visited Kapilavastu several times during his life time.
