Gosai Kunda is an alpine freshwater lake in Rasuwa district, Langtang National Park, Nepal.It is the site of regular Hindu pilgrimage. It is situated at the height of 4380 metres (14370 feet) from sea level with a surface of 13.8 ha (34 acres). The Gosaikunda Lake complex is 1,030 ha (4.0 sq mi) in size and has been designated a Ramsar site in September 2007.
The Gosaikunda area has been delineated as a religious site. Hindu mythology attributes Gosaikunda as the residence of Hindu deities Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri. The Hindu scriptures Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana and the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata refer to Samudra manthan, which is directly related to the origin of Gosaikunda. Its holy waters are considered of particular significance during the sacred thread festival Janai Purnima when thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the area.
Together with associated lakes, the Gosaikunda Lake complex is 1,030 ha (4.0 sq mi) in size and has been designated a Ramsar site in September 2007.The lake melts and sips down to form the Trishuli River and remains frozen for six months in winter October to June. There are 108 lakes in this area, small to medium in size.
Day 01 – Arrival to Kathmandu
The beautiful view of snow-capped Himalayan range greets your sight. The No Name Travel and Treks Airport Representative will meet you at the airport and take you to our hotel. After arrival to hotel, you will have short briefing and final payment procedures.
Day 02 - Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour
Sightseeing of Kathmandu includes Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath. Afternoon you may tour around Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swoyambhunath Stupa too.
Day 03 - By Bus to Syabru Bensi (1462m)
By Private Vehicle to Syabru Bensi (1462 meters). Our way passing via Trishuli Bazzar and Dhunche. Some of pilgrimage people and tourists will start theri trek from Dhunche bazzar too. But we are making some of experiences of Langtang valley on our trek.
Day 04 - Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel (2748 meters)
We leave Syabru besi, soon reach Ghopcha Khola. Terraced fields and dense forest with a variety of plant species like oaks, maple, alder and bamboo open up. We may get to see yellow-throated martin, wild boar, langur monkey, and red panda and Himalayan black bear en route. Further on, the trail crosses a stream and a bridge. As we continue ascending steeply along the trail, we come across a steel suspension bridge at 2000 meters. On reaching 2748 meters, we arrive at Lama Hotel where we conclude the trek for the day.
Day 05 - Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3500 meters)
From lama hotel, we continue the ascent above the Langtang Khola. As the trail progresses, it becomes steeper. The trail leads to a log bridge and on climbing further we come across lush meadows of Ghoda Tabela (Horse Stable) at 3000 meters. We arrive at Langtang village after crossing a stream and reaching up a height of 3500 meters. Langtang village is the headquarters for Langtang National Park and has flat-roofed Tibetan style houses, hotels and cultivated lands yielding buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips, barley etc.
Day 06 - Langtang village to Kyangjing Gompa (3800 meters)
On ascending the mountain passes, we arrive at Kyagjing Gompa. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory, where from all cheeses brought to Kathmandu.
Day 07 - Acclmatization in Kyanjing Gompa
Acclmatization in Kyanjing Gompa valley (hiking to Kyanjing Ri, Tserko Ri (5033 meters).We take a day off for acclimatization and a proper rest. We get to explore interesting places like the monastery, cheese factory etc.
Day 08 - Trek to Lama Hotel (2784m)
From Kyangjin, we take the route back to Lama Hotel. As we retrace our steps, we follow the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. We stop briefly for lunch and thereafter continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.
Day 09 - Trek to Thulo Syabru (2130meters)
From Lama Hotel, we head back to Thulo Syabru. We can wander around the undulating path leading to the village. We can also simply relax in the sun savoring the beauty of the majestic Himalayan Mountains.
Day 10 - Trek to Sing Gompa (3254meters)
The trail to Sing Gompa climbs through forests of oak, firs and rhododendrons to gain a ridge. We take the uphill trail at each junction and cross another forested ridge. Sing Gompa is about 100 m along the trail to the left. Sing Gompa is the main attraction at Chandan Bari, which also has several hotel a small cheese factory.
Day 11 - Trek to Gosainkunda (4380 meters)
From Sing Gompa we climb to the main Gosainkunda trail. The trail climbs steeply up the ridge and at several points on top of the ridge itself.. As the trail ascends, there are outstanding views across Langtang valley to Langtang Lirung. To the west there are dramatic views of Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal and Manaslu.
Finally the trail descends from the ridge to the first of three lakes, Saraswati Kund. The second lake in the chain is named Bhairab Kund, and the third, Gosainkunda. This lake is particularly sacred and a place of pilgrimage in the summer. The Gosainkunda (Holy Shiva's lake) is a high altitude lake.
Day 12 - Trek to Gopte (3359 meters)
The trail passes the northern side of Gosainkunda Lake and climbs further through rugged country towards Laurebina La Pass at 4610m. The trail is rough but it is well marked with rock cairns. From the ridge the trail descends through forests, climbing in and out of ravines across the head of the valley.
Day 13 - Trek to Mangan Kharka (3285m)
We continue descending along the ridge, through rhododendron and juniper forests and past herders' huts to a stream before climbing to Tharepati. From Tharepati the trail gradually descends through pine and rhododendron forest with good views down into the Helambu valley and across to Jugal Himal and Numbur in the Solu Khumbu.
Day 14 - Trek to Gulphu Bhanjyang (2125meters)
From Mangan Kharka, it is a short climb to cross a ridge before following a very easy trail, through forest with superb views across to Numbur, Jugal Himal and many other snow capped peaks. Gulphu Bhanjyang is a village with a mixed population of Gurungs and Tamangs.
Day 15 - Trek to Chisapani (2195 meters)
From Gulphu Bhanjyang, it is an easy climb to cross a pass at 2470m before descending to Pati Bhanjyang, a large Tamang village. From here it is a 2 hour climb to Chisapani. A short distance above Chisapani is a high knoll which is known as Chisapani Danda, where there is a temple.
Day 16 - Trek to Sundarijal and drive to Kathmandu (1450m)
From Chisapani the trail passes through meadows and cultivated fields then climbs through oak and rhododendron forest to Burlang Bhanjyang. This ridge marks the northern rim of the Kathmandu Valley. Just after Chisapani there is an entrance to Shivapuri watershed and wildlife reserve. The trail goes through the reserve, moving up to the hill and down to Mulkharka, from which you can see Kathmandu. From Mulkharka, we descend on endless stairs to the exit from the reserve and to Sundarijal. From Sundarijal we take a 45 minutes drive to Kathmandu.
Day 17 - Departure Day
Transfer for your final flight departure. The trip ends, our Airport Representative will drop you to the Kathmandu International Airport for your flight departure from Nepal.
